What Now?

As the immediate threat of COVID-19 subsides, we find ourselves at a very weird point in time (understatement), stuck between new and old rules and ways of being in the world.

There is so much uncertainty and every individual feels the impact of this in different ways. What will our ‘new normal’ look like? How will this extraordinary world event irrevocably change our lives (for both the good and the bad)?

What Now? is a film-based project which follows the journey of several artists on the Sunshine Coast during this abnormal period. Multi-disciplinary artist Timothy Birch deep-dives into their worlds, visiting them in their homes to understand how 2020 as a whole, and COVID-19 in particular, have impacted their lives, art, and beliefs about the world.

The final work will be a documentary-style video that will become a ‘time capsule’ to remember this extraordinary moment in time.

Timothy will be sharing the stories of Jandamarra Cadd, Tammy Brennan, Niki De Saint and Dave Knobel.

About the Artist

Born in Sydney but only to find himself residing in Queensland Timothy Birch is often found closest to the nearest air conditioning unit. Tim has a Bachelor of Digital Design and majored in graphics but often finds himself between many roles in the creative realm. Finding comfort behind the lens he is a keen photographer and film maker passionate about capturing content in and around subjects of and with great meaning.

David Knobel
David Knobel is a Sunshine Coast based lawyer, writer and performance poet. He began writing poetry in 2013 inspired by the work of Australian performance poets Luka Lesson and Omar Musa. David was the 2018 Queensland Poetry Slam champion going on to perform at the Sydney Opera House for the Australian Poetry Slam final that year.
