Horizon Festival has teamed up with Sunshine Coast Libraries for PlaceHolder, an opportunity for local Sunshine Coast-based artists to feature their artwork on a library bookmark.
Local artists are invited to submit original contemporary artworks created in response 2020. This year has been a wild ride and we invite artists to reflect on this extraordinary time and create works that speak to their lived experience in 2020.
Successful artists will be awarded in two categories:
Main Prize
The winning artwork selected by the PlaceHolder judging panel and the artist will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize, plus an Apple 9.7” iPad Wi-Fi 128GB (6th Gen), RRP $499.
The artwork will be printed on 5,000 free bookmarks to be distributed across the Sunshine Coast Libraries and council network.
The winning artist will also be profiled and promoted by both Libraries and the Horizon Festival.
People’s Choice Prize
The PlaceHolder judging panel will select artworks to be showcased online in a People’s Choice category, from which our community will vote online to select a winner.
The winning artist will receive $500 cash and have their artwork featured on 2,500 free bookmarks to be distributed across the Sunshine Coast Libraries and council network.
The artist will also be profiled and promoted by both Libraries and the Horizon Festival.
Requirements
We’re looking for original contemporary 2D artworks, including but not limited to paintings, drawings, collage, digital illustrations and photographs.
The artwork needs to be supplied sized for bookmark production:
- 200mm (length) x 75mm (width)
- PDF or JPEG file
- High resolution - 300pdi.
Artists must also submit a 200 words synopsis of the artwork, describing how it was created and how it reflects the artist’s experience of 2020.
Submissions will be accepted through SmartyGrants.
