Meet Rosie Lloyd-Giblett

Who are you and what do you create?
I am a visual artist who loves to connect with nature. My works are colourful and expressive. I like to use mark making and the happy accident to create intuitive imagery – there is multiple viewpoints and an essence of place in my work.

What materials and techniques do you use?
I love paper and canvas and the usual drawing materials such as graphite, ink, charcoal, watercolour and acrylic. My tools are paintbrushes and sponges but I also love to use sticks, palm fronds and leaves to invigorate the surface energy.

What kind of inspirations go into your work?
Nature and seasons are imbedded in my practice. I enjoy seeing the different shadows, skies and foliage change colour and texture as the year rolls on.

In what space do you like to create most?
I do love working outside in the Noosa National Park and First Bay Coolum – when I work plein air it is like the earth charges my canvas with new beginnings.

What has been your favourite or most important work to date?
My favourite work is probably “The spaces in between” hanging at Noosa Regional Gallery at the moment for my exhibition “The Spaces between the Trees”. I love the spaces in the work there is an opportunity for the viewer to move around in the work.

Rosie Lloyd-Giblett is one of our participating artists in Love Note to the Landscape; a celebration of plein air artwork, created in three iconic Sunshine Coast locations – Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanical Gardens, Coolum’s First Bay and the Mooloolah Wetlands.
